In 1992, two more aggregates arrived. The first was an atmospheric 2.0 16V with 136 bhp and the second a 6 liter VR2,9 with 12 valves and 190 bhp. The VR6 was a real revolution at the time, combining the benefits of the V concept with regular settings, since the cylinders were mounted at a 15 ° angle and had a unique cylinder head. This design allowed engineers to place all 6 cylinders in the same space that normally occupies 4 cylinders.

While some enthusiasts were disappointed with the heavy weight of the car, the Volkswagen Corrado was extremely manageable and was included in the list of "25 cars you must drive before you die", made by the British magazine Car.

Many owners of this car have constantly upgraded and improved their Corrado, so even today there are a lot of supercharged VR6s, many have brakes from more modern models such as the Golf R32. Some also have the ubiquitous VAG 1.8T engine. Some have even been converted to 4 × 4 models.
