Seat Ibiza 4 - The fourth incarnation of urban Ibiza debuted in 2008. The small Seat shares a platform with the Vw Polo, but is much more visually attractive than its German brother, and is also available as a station wagon.

Beneath the beautiful body, there is a spacious interior and a spacious trunk, with a wagon version of 430 liters of cargo space.

The range of engines is wide, but only a few units deserve attention. The best offer is a 2.0 TDI engine, but it is also more expensive. The 1.6 TDI and 1.9 TDI diesels (unfortunately with a particulate filter) will be the best in everyday use. The 1.4 16V / 85 hp petrol engine is also worth noting.

Which engine to choose to avoid unpleasant surprises? For people looking for a petrol engine, I recommend primarily the 1,2-liter, 1,4-liter and 1,6-liter naturally aspirated engines, which will certainly be durable, although the former has a significant drawback - not very fast. TSI-marked motors have problems: soot build-up on the valves, damage to the timing chain and its tensioners.

The 1.4 TSI engine also had several cases of piston bursting, damage to the water pump, and failure of the injection system. This is a pity because it is a very successful construction when it comes to dynamics and flexibility. If you don't want to have a car problem, you better choose another engine.

Those opting for diesel should avoid the 1.2 TDI CR and 1.4 TDI PD units. The first is too lethargic, and the second often causes excessive consumption of engine oil. The best choice will be the most cultivated and most dynamic 1.6 TDI CR engine or an even more powerful 2.0 TDi CR engine. Smarter customers are likely to choose the older and louder 1.9 TDI PD unit - and have no reason to worry.

The Seat Ibiza IV uses front-wheel-drive transmission that is transmitted using either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG. The suspension was constructed very similar to the twin model from Volkswagen groups, advancing MacPherson, and torsion beam at the rear. In the Euro NCAP crash tests, the Seat Ibiza IV received a maximum rating of 5 stars.

Problems and malfunctions - Seat Ibiza 4

One of the weakest points of this model is the engine, but the Spanish-German design unfortunately has other shortcomings. First of all, electricity and electronics. Problems with the power windows switches, problems with the air conditioning and radio, as well as the instrument panel computer are the most common drawbacks in the Seat Ibiza 4.

With 1.2 TDI, 1.6 TDI and 1.9 TDI diesel engines, turbine failures can occur before 70.000 km.

In diesel engines, water pump leaks are frequent. When servicing / replacing the water pump, the sprocket sprocket must be replaced.

Diesel engines also face common problems with closed and blocked EGR valves, EGR valve cooler leaks and DPF filter defects. The problems are shown as thick black smoke on the exhaust, lack of power, switching engine operation to safety mode and coolant consumption. The problem was solved by cleaning or replacing the EGR valve and DPF filter.

In the case of petrol versions, there is an early failure of the wheel bearings.

For cars equipped with DSG transmissions, more and more owners are complaining about problems and clutch slippage at lower speeds. Problems usually indicate the need for expensive repair.

In some cases, water enters the interior of the taillights.

The increased number of cabin fan failures at the beginning of the problem indicates loud work.

Electronics in vehicles cause a number of inconveniences (inexplicable switching on and off of headlights, loss of contact,…) is solved in most cases by reprogramming.
