Costly mistakes

Costly mistakes

Did you know that keeping your foot on the clutch pedal unnecessarily shortens its lifespan by up to 7.000 km? Do you know how to increase your fuel economy yourself and what happens when you delay your service? We highlight some of the most common driver errors and ways to fix them.

"So where exactly now ?!" This is a bit of a driver's response when something goes wrong with the car. This confirms how convenient it is for us at any moment in our life to break down because we are most afraid of repairing a car that we depend on every day. But what do we do to prevent it?

We have to wonder if it is our fault that, for example, it is too early to replace the clutch kit, or whether we have caused a fault in the engine by our negligence, or because of our driving, the brake pads are changed too often…

Whether because of inexperience, laziness or forgetfulness, but many drivers make cardinal mistakes in reflecting and driving their four wheelers. One has to be careful here, because as drivers we are quite vain, especially when it comes to the way we drive, and it is really rare for someone to consider himself not a good driver.

That is why we know that it can be ungrateful to point out to the drivers the mistakes they are making, so we decided to put this section in the way. Whoever finds himself in the examples in which we describe driving errors and their consequences should be guided by the solutions we provide right next to them.

We've listed just some of the common driver mistakes here, and the list could go on indefinitely. That is why we will strive to keep this topic present in the future, all in order to save time, money and nerves for drivers, while also revealing some good chats for those less experienced.

The sooner we realize that we have to deal with the car regularly, it will be easier for us financially, because we will prevent many failures, but also mentally, because we will not have as much stress.

In the following, we highlight the common mistakes drivers make and try to help you save your vehicle. Keep in mind that maintenance mistakes can easily become part of bad habits that should be rid of, and here's how.
Maintenance errors:
We will not go into the reasons why drivers make serious mistakes when maintaining a vehicle, but here are the most common, what they can cause, and how they can be addressed.

1.Disposal of service - The basis for the proper functioning of the car is regular service. This is also the main condition for the engine life to be as long as possible.
Issue: Failure to comply with factory service intervals can lead to costly failures that could have been resolved if the car had been inspected on time. The service is not only for oil and filter replacement but all key points are then inspected and the electronics checked.
Solution: Always keep in mind that you should not delay service even though you think the car is OK. Follow the factory recommendation or the advice of the service masters.

2.Non-Replacement oil - Many drivers do this themselves. That is why it is perhaps one of the most common omissions, even though everyone knows that engine oil is the main thing for normal operation and long engine life.

Problem: After a certain period of time, and due to the deposition of impurities in the fuel, the oil loses its lubricating properties and the required viscosity, so the engine quickly deteriorates.

Solution: You must follow the factory recommendation or the advice of an experienced repairer in the vehicle, and if you are traveling more frequently for shorter distances, be aware that you should shorten this interval.

3. Forgetting about candles - Regardless of the fact that modern cars require less and less maintenance from the owner, you must not forget the spark plugs.

candles
Problem: Spark plugs have a limited life span. Failure to replace them can result in increased fuel consumption, malfunctioning of the engine, harder starting and slower acceleration.
Solution: Spark plugs must be replaced at a large service station (60-100 thousand km, depending on the vehicle), but it is not bad to check them and replace them if necessary earlier. Check the service booklet for manufacturer recommendations.

4.Clogged filter - Driving with an uncleared or old air filter is another common mistake. This part should be changed at every small service (or cleaned, depending on the type).
Problem: The filter is there to prevent impurities from entering the engine, so after a while, they accumulate on this part. Then less air gets to the engine, which directly affects its performance which significantly weakens and fuel consumption increases.
Solution: Depending on the mileage and conditions, check the condition of the filter at least once between regular services (every 6-7.000 km). Depending on the degree of soiling and the type of air filter, replace or clean it.

5. Non-standard pressure check - Ignoring tire pressure checks is another bad habit among drivers, which also endangers safety.
Problem: Inadequate tire pressures reflect poorly on their performance, increase fuel consumption, and affect accelerated and uneven tire wear and consequently poor vehicle hold.
Solution: Do not delay this check, but get used to adjusting the tire pressure once a month. It is ideal to perform this check on the pump when the tires are not overheated.

6. Semi-empty tank - Many replenish the tank only when the warning is on the reserve. This can have consequences for the engine.
Problem: When using domestic fuel for a long time, the bottom of the tank is covered with impurities. When the reserve light comes on, the pump with the remaining fuel will also remove impurities, which will have consequences for the engine and the injection system.
Solution: Avoid running on the reserve and if possible once every two years, clear the tank from the sludge.

Driving errors:

Yes! The way we drive really affects the durability of the car. These are procedures during the journey itself, and some of them that most affect the individual parts and assemblies of vehicles are listed below.

1.Cool engine - The hectic lifestyle compels many drivers to make mistakes when handling a car. This is where we think first of all of the morning engine boosts.
Problem: High revs during the engine warm-up process and how dangerous they are. Uneven temperature and friction are rapidly leaving their mark on cylinders, links, valves and other rapidly moving wear parts.
Solution: Skip starting the vehicle immediately after starting the cold engine, and in particular do not force the engine to high speeds until it reaches the optimum operating temperature (which can be observed in the display).

2. Beware of the clutch: Drivers can neglect their life by up to 7.000 km with their negligence!

clutch
Problem: Drivers' habit of resting their foot on the clutch pedal or braking too often with the engine, as well as holding the car at first speed with the light on the clutch (rocker when not really needed) while the vehicle is stationary, drastically shortening its life the whole mechanism of this piece.
Solution: While waiting for the traffic light, disconnect the gearbox, apply the parking brake on an uphill slope. Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal, but remove it after changing gears. Do not overdo it with engine braking.

3.Cool the turbine - Owners of cars with a turbine should know how to handle this part in order to last as long as possible.

turbine
Problem: If you force the engine while driving and then suddenly shut it down, oil droplets and other combustion impurities will build up on the rotor shaft and turbine blades, causing it to fail over time.
Solution: After driving at high rpm, first let the engine idle for at least a minute or two to allow the impurities and oil to be removed from the turbine.

4. Errors with automatics - Cars that have an automatic transmission must not be towed or pushed under any circumstances.
Problem: When towing a vehicle, many drivers try to solve the problem by switching the lever to "N" but forget that the transmission still works, but that there is no lubrication. This causes a transmission crash. Another common mistake is to keep the gearbox in the drive for a long time, causing unnecessary heating and slipping in the converter.
Solution: Turn the gearshift lever to “N” at the traffic light. If the car stops, do not try to move it, but call the towing service.

5. Fly over holes - During the ride, count on punching holes, too high curbs, and somewhere too big lying policemen lurking at every step. These are the real street enemies of cars.
Problem: Frequently and quickly passing through the above, without exception, parts of the control system and suspension (balls, clamps, shock absorbers, the steering wheel…). Repairs to these parts can be extremely expensive.
Solution: Always drive on a limitation, especially in the city, and only then will you have time to react and slow down as much as possible when crossing holes and other obstacles.

6. Watch out for brakes - Another mistake drivers make while driving is too late and then sudden braking.
Problem: Keep in mind that the tiles wear out quickly with every braking brake. If you brake frequently, you will need to change these parts more often.
Solution: The braking should be even. Of course, if opportunities allow. Do not accelerate abruptly as this will result in sudden braking. Start braking on time and your plates will last longer and your fuel consumption will be reduced if you drive at a steady pace and without sudden reactions.
