The first-generation Renault Megan is quite an average car, not expensive as a half-truck, it is safe and quite spacious. On the other hand, it is not overly reliable, not fun enough to drive, and there is no room for little things in the cabin. Be sure to check the clutch, corrosion marks and immobilizer.

APPEARANCE - Renault megan

A lot of heads on the street may not turn up for this Megan. Maybe none. But it should not be ignored as a great half-man for a reasonable sum of money. Well, design is not his main feature. But let's also say that for a small sum of money you can get a central lock, two air bags and ABS, and most halfbacks have a climate.

And in terms of practicality, the Renault Megan gets a great rating. The cabin is spacious, the fifth door opens wide, and the trunk is decent. On the other hand, the built-in plastic looks cheap and the buttons and controls are not of the highest quality. A big grudge goes to places where little things are missing, but not at all.

The cabin is well tucked in, so don't expect too much noise in the cabin. Renault Megan absorbs unevenness and is not nervous on the wheel, like most French people.

ENGINE - Renault Megan

The smallest, 1,4 gasoline eats a decent 95 horses and quite meets the needs of most riders. The average consumption is about six liters of gasoline which will also put a smile on your face. For those who want a little more power, there are 1,6, 1,8 and 2,0 variants, and it's up to you to find and select one.

From diesel engineers, our advice is to find the stronger of the two, because it works much more peacefully and costs less. Both engines are 1,9, the lower is 80, and the stronger 105 horsepower. Reno claims that the average consumption is 4,3 liters per 100 kilometers, and we find this difficult to do.

FAULTS - Renault Megan

The Renault Megan is a solidly made car so you can expect it to last you a long time. However, there were a couple of odd failures.

For example, the heating system knows that it is corroding, so water begins to penetrate the cabin. The only solution is to replace the whole system, and this is not cheap at all. If you decide on a 1,4 engine, check the gasket of the engine head that knows how to loosen, and if this does not work, the entire engine may malfunction.

Clutches are generally very durable but also much more expensive to replace than the competition. There were also problems with the immobilizers, so check with the previous owner as it would not be unusual for Megan to have already failed him on the matter.
