Maintenance of used Renault Scenica 1.5 dCi and 1.6 16v (2003 - 2009)

Renault also built its image by developing a minivan. The Renault Scenic is certainly the most interesting, because it is on it that the value for money is perhaps the best on the minivan market. For buyers of used vehicles, the most interesting is now the second-generation Renault Scenic introduced in 2003. It still looks acceptable, conservative, quite usable, but also quite well equipped. In this class, the equipment is certainly one of the most important items, and Renault Scenic is in this segment in an advantage over other cars, because as new they are mostly bought with generous equipment packages.

Renault Scenic 1,6-liter 16V petrol with 110 hp, service technicians at authorized service centers did not notice any standard problems with this engine, so it is clear that customers justifiably sacrificed a liter or two more consumption, but had a completely reliable engine. Of course, far from other engines are not reliable, but a small gasoline engine is clearly recognized as the one that has by far the least flaws. In addition, models with a 1,5-liter dCi engine with 85 hp and a 1,9-liter dCi engine with 130 hp are also available. The weaker one is somewhat more represented, but the same problem is expressed on both engines. Namely, the EGR valve or the valve from the exhaust gas recirculation system is quite sensitive, so it is possible that the limiter used to control the leakage of exhaust gases remains blocked, which increases consumption and the engine loses part of its power.

It is also interesting that in some European markets, customers also encountered numerous electronic problems in the cabin. For example, the window lifts stopped functioning, and even problems with the engine ignition cards were recorded, the same as the owners of Laguna made until 2005. Certainly, the Renault Scenic was significantly upgraded during the 2006 redesign. In addition to the discreet styling and engine adaptation to lower CO2 emissions, the Renault Scenic has also been partially rebuilt in the cabin. Since then, higher quality seat materials have been installed, the console parts are coated, at least in appearance and touch, with a more pleasant rubberized plastic, and the external sounds are further muted by a slightly richer layer of insulating material. Certainly, the purchase of such a used car should, where possible, be limited to models produced after the redesign.

Renault started production of the second-generation Scenic in 2003. However, the model was redesigned as early as 2006, when the basic defects that were expressed at the one from the beginning of production were eliminated. The new model is easily recognized by a slightly different front, and all newer models are richer than before the redesign.

Renault Scenic are sold at the same prices for much smaller and older cars. The reason for such a low price does not lie in Scenic's unreliability or his image. On the contrary, the Renault Scenic is built on the platform of the Renault Meganea of the past generation, which means that it shares with it the suspension elements, gearboxes, engines, and price. Namely, as new, the Renault Scenic was a little more expensive than the Megane, so this kind of relationship was transferred to the world of used cars. So this is perhaps the most attractive and acceptable mid-range monovolume. There are Japanese and German competitors as well, but they are significantly more expensive and charge much more than Renault for all the accessories. In the end, the used Renault Scenic produced after the 2006 redesign is quite a comfortable family monovolumen today. Moreover, both gasoline and diesel models are quite popular, so the choice of used is rich enough.

Problems and recalls

The second-generation Renault Scenic has been recalled four times in total. Three recalls related to models produced before the 2006 redesign.
- Renault first recalled Scenic in the fifth month of 2006. A total of 93.289 copies produced from February 2003 to December 2005 were recalled. The problem was identified on the rear seat belt brackets that were not properly secured. All recalled specimens were replaced with bolts and the brackets were attached to Renault specifications. The recall is registered under code R / 2006/045.
- Renault Scenic was recalled for the second time in the sixth month of 2006. In fact, 57.995 second-generation Scenic and Megane specimens were recalled due to the lack of limiters on the brake pedal. Namely, the pedal did not provide enough resistance, and if pressed fully, it would "fail" and the braking force would be significantly reduced. On recalled specimens, the brake actuation mechanism was completely replaced. The recall is registered under code R / 2006/078.
- For the third time, 5.354 second-generation Scenic and Megane copies have been recalled. They were recalled at the end of December 2006, and a visit to the service center was necessary because of a damaged mechanism for adjusting the backrest tilt in the front seats. Moreover, some specimens also damaged the entire metal seat support. The service centers have replaced the mechanism and enabled the movement of the armchairs on all recalled specimens. The recall is registered under code R / 2006/177.
- Scenic was last recalled in October 2009. 34.403 specimens manufactured from January 2006 to March 2007 were recalled. The recalled instances did not properly handle the power steering. The problem was identified on a central computer that had been reprogrammed by the repairers and thus enabled the steering wheel servomotor.
