Ford Fusion 2002 - 2012 - Used, experience, benefits
In 2002, the successor to the B-Max came on the market, a Ford Fusion minivan based on the Ford Fiesta. It is distinguished from the Fiesta by a more spacious interior, height and volume of the trunk of 337 liters, which with lowered seats increases to 1175 liters, while the Fiesta offers 290 liters or 975 liters. Many customers liked it because of its easy entry and exit from the car, elevated driver position, good visibility and comfort.
There are two petrol engines in the engine range, 1.4hp 75hp and 1.6hp 101hp, both engines running quietly and smoothly at lower rpm, while slightly less power can be felt on hilly roads. As standard, all models come with a five-speed manual transmission, while the 1.6 engine is available with a four-speed Durashift transmission and the 1.4 engine with a four-speed EST gearbox. It's a weaker diesel engine 1.4 TDCI which is quite sluggish. The recommendation is the 1.6 TDCI, which is much better for everyday driving, is more economical and delivers better performance. Both diesel engines are noisy and a bit outdated considering the offerings of competing cars.
The standard equipment offered by Ford Fusion are ABS , four airbags, side impact protection, air conditioning, power windows and central locking. For weaker engines, stability control is not included in the price. An additional cost is ESP, a trip computer and anti-slip system. It won four out of five stars at the Euro NCAP crash test.
Ford in terms of breakdown statistics, it always wins, unlike its competitors, good marks even though the quality of workmanship and materials is not high. Initially, there were problems with gasoline engines, engine electronics and the ignition bomb. The first diesels also had problems with defective injection. The taillights are also sensitive. After 5-6 years the rust is visible on the exhaust system, and in the first models corrosion occurs on the fenders and on the edges of the door. The 1.4 TDCI diesel engine is facing a fuel hose burst. It is also recommended to replace the water pump, which can be damaged by the timing belt. After 4-5 years, errors with the 1.4 engine with Durashift transmission are also possible.
Gasoline engines consume an average of 8 liters per 100 kilometers while diesel engines consume about 6 liters the same distance.
