ADS - ADAPTIVE DAMPING SYSTEM - Shock absorbers with automatic adjustment to driving characteristics

ADS is an abbreviation of Engl. Adaptive Damping System, ie German. Adaptive damping system. Indicates the adjustment of the system of damping of dynamic forces and loads in the suspension of the car, or a set of shock absorbers with automatic adjustment of characteristics to driving conditions. This increases the stability and active safety of the car and improves driving characteristics. The system is based on solenoid valves, which change the resistance of the hydraulic fluid (oil) from the lower to the upper part of the shock absorber, and vice versa, and thus, when the tilt speed increases (when it enters the bend abruptly), the shock absorber force increases. This force is applied to the force in the spring on the outside of the car, which increases linearly with deflection, and to the torsional force of the transverse torsion bar (bar balance), which increases linearly with the angle of deflection. The sum of these three forces effectively reduces the tilt of the car. The ADS system, according to the same principle, reduces the longitudinal tilt of the body, during sudden braking and acceleration, and reduces rocking when driving on uneven roads. The ADS label was introduced by Mercedes-Benz in the early 90s, and gained its true meaning in the Airmatic active air (more precisely oil-air or hydropneumatic) suspension system, introduced in 1999 in the S-Class W220 series. A simpler version of ADAPTIVE DAMPING SYSTEM also uses Opel astra
