Zastava 750

The story of the Kragujevac Red Flag Institute actually begins more than 160 years ago. At that time, the first industrial company in Serbia was founded under the name of foundry, and in 1904, the repair of vehicles with the production of auto parts began in the factory.

The birthday of Zastava Automobile Factory is considered to be August 26, 1953. The proposal to invest the bulk of the profits made in the development of the automotive industry was approved by a referendum that day at 96 percent of employees of the Red Flag offices at the time. Already in 1953, 162 vehicles were manufactured at the Kragujevac factory. They were Jeeps. True, the first assembly of the vehicle was organized in Kragujevac just before World War II, in 1940, when 250 Chevrolet trucks with a gasoline engine were mounted.

However, the real production of cars in the Institutes began in 1953. The license purchase agreement with Fiat was signed on August 12, 1954, and three months later the assembly of the first vehicles of the "Fiat AP-55" ("Campanola"), "Fiat 1400 BJ" and "Fiat 1100 B" models began. Production of the "Zastava 750" or "fiche" car began in 1955 and stopped 30 years later. "Fića" was repackaged with "Fiat 600", with an engine capacity of 600, and later 750 cubic meters. During the development of the "flag 750" model, the engine power ranged from 23 to 27 horsepower, as it had in the last year of production. A total of 923.487 copies of this model were produced.

It is thought that in 1957 and 1958, a firm foundation was set up for the supporting industry to supply semi-finished products such as castings and forgings. At that time, the mechanical processing of chassis parts in the Departments and the mechanical processing of all engine parts began on May 21 in Rakovica.

Along with the production of 53.493 cars, in 1968, with the participation of Fiat's capital and domestic credit, production capacity was expanded to 85.000 vehicles a year. This completes the first phase of the car factory development program. The Red Flag offices already had seven factories - five in Kragujevac and one each in Macedonia and Kosovo.
