Yugo

After more than successful production of the Fiat Model 600, that is, under the national name of the Zastava 750 and the fantastic success of the Zastava 101, the factory is embarking on a new challenge, the production of a Yugoslav car. The project is logically called “Zastava 102 ″ Ideally created when 101, but developed only a decade later, due to the difficult economic situation in the country and in the factory itself. By contract with Fiat on the use of experimental and technological resources of the Italian factory, the production of models whose basics of design were made in Kragujevac began. In 1978, four prototypes were made and subjected to intensive testing in Yugoslavia and Italy.

In addition to the tradition that cars are numbered, in a competition that contained more than three thousand proposals, the name "Jugo" was chosen, then spelled "J".
The first "Jugić" came off the production line on November 28, 1980. year, and we remember that first version by the completely gray bumpers and the lack of a rubber decorative molding on the side (which is later joked about as the only change in the South).
Namely, in one of the performances of the National Theater, the presidential candidate asks a journalist and tells him: “Do you know how much work has been done in aerodynamics at the South in the last two years! You know, that thick molding, it's a door molding, now it's a thin molding. "

In the eighties of the last century, at the time of the economic crisis, factories could not freely change the prices of products in those conditions. Zastava solved the problems by producing models with small changes, such as the shape of the turn signal and the gear lever. Thus, they allegedly produced new models with different names and freely set the price they wanted.

Later, production for the American market began in the SFRY. The factory could not afford the luxury of producing a standard "Yuga" and a modified one for America, then it also offers domestic customers a much better equipped model. The Yugo featured a more powerful engine, as well as a five-speed transmission, as well as headrests in all seats. "Yugo" is becoming more and more equipped. The then name became "Yugo 45 A" which symbolizes America.
A cheap price of $ 3.990 greatly shook the relationship between the customer and Yuga. So, because of the low price, the south was often left without oil or some technical element, because it was easier to buy a new one than to maintain an old one. The Yuga was later named in some polls as the worst car in the world.

Top speed - 135 km / h
Acceleration 0 - 100 - 20 seconds
Fuel consumption at 90 km / h - 5,9 l / 100 km
Weight - 750 kg
Load capacity - 400 kg
Height - 1335 mm
Length - 3490 mm

Some models include an 1116 cc Stojadin engine and an 3 cc enhanced Fich engine.
“Yuga” designations during an economic crisis (GV, GVL, GVS, GVX, GV PLUS, GVC) where GV was “Grand Value”.
One of the projects not realized is the “Yugo Turbo”, but certainly the most beautiful is the “Yugo Convertible”, and besides them the latest “Yugo In”

The last "Yugo" came off the band on November 11, 2008, and in almost three decades, 749.428 copies of our little legend were produced.
Lest we forget, "Yugo" has all the essentials of "Mercedes" as standard.
“Mercedes” has a steering wheel, gearbox, brake and wiper, and “Yugo” steering wheel…. Gearbox… brake… .wiper and something that no car owns, a warm boom built into it by a man…
