Subaru Forester 2.0 2008 - 2013

Subaru Forester

For decades, Subaru has been a symbol for durable and rugged all-wheel-drive cars, and the forester, with its sporty imprec, is a true icon of this manufacturer. This is one of the first all-wheel-drive crossover models. The very name "crossover" means a crossing, in this case a transition between a classic SUV, such as a Toyota Land Cruiser, and a city SUV like "Honda CR-V”. This is exactly the essence of the "forester". It is one of the few models that has proven to be an excellent compromise for driving on asphalt, but also as a very capable off-road one. On the other hand, the stumbling block when it comes to the "forester" has always been design. Although it has existed since 1997 and has experienced four generations, none of them has become famous for some attractive design that would attract customers for whom appearance is more important than reliability. It is the same with the third generation of "Forester", which was produced from 2008 until the end of last year. With the arrival of the new generation, this model can be found more often in ads, so it is becoming more and more interesting as a used car. Its prices are more than interesting, and legends about its reliability are widely retold.

So a third-generation Forester, an unobtrusive model, durable with a simple interior, all-wheel drive and, of course, a boxer configuration engine. The offer consisted of the well-known two-liter boxer petrol with 150 hp as well as a 2.4-liter turbo-petrol with 230 hp taken from the sports "imprece" in variants with five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions.

However, the third generation of foresters has revolutionized the introduction of diesel engines. A two-liter diesel boxer, powerful (150hp) and built-in manners, corrected one of the owners' biggest objections to "forester" - high consumption (in practice, the diesel engine consumes about 8.5 liters). Before that, the owners of the foresters, in their desire to save, mostly switched to auto gas, thus unknowingly incurring large costs. That being said, the combination of the Subaru boxer gasoline and the LPG does not work very well, and the consequence is overheating and ultimately overheating of the valves, which we have already written about before. The end result of LPG installation can be a serious engine failure, so it is advisable to avoid such variants. Otherwise, besides the occasional problems caused by the poor quality of domestic fuel, there are not too many reasons to worry about the two-liter gasoline. She is gentle in manners and works calmly and without vibration, but is too quiet. The more powerful 2.5 liter gasoline certainly offers far better performance, but due to its high consumption and registration price, it is quite rare in our market.

This is the situation with engines. As for the other qualities of the "foresters", it is emphasized that the differential lock and gearbox have been rarely seen lately even in more serious off-road vehicles. Thanks to them, but also more than a solid ground clearance (215 or 225 mm in the turbo version), the “forester” can do a lot outside the tarmac. This is one of the reasons why nature lovers love him. Although the forester can withstand off-roading, we still advise a thorough inspection before buying. In addition to being a SUV, the Forester doubles as a practical family car. There is a trunk of solid volume and plenty of pantry inside. Also, the standard equipment of all models is rich, so each "forester" has air conditioning, CD MP3 radio, power windows, ABS and so on.
