Vehicle body parts

Car body

One of the three basic parts of a motor vehicle is called bodywork. The other two basic parts of a motor vehicle are the chassis and the equipment. Bodywork is defined as the part to which the chassis is upgraded and to which it is mounted. It is used to accommodate passengers, cargo and luggage, and in today's passenger vehicles the body is made as a load-shifting grille and is also called a self-supporting body.

Sometimes it is difficult to understand which parts of the car are part of the body, so let's list them first. Body parts are therefore bonnets, bumpers, bumper mounts, connecting plates, masks, headlights, fenders, radiators, window lifters, sills, fender edges, stop lights, boot and bonnet shock absorbers and mirrors.
So, all of these are parts of the body and if we take a closer look at the cars we will realize that the body actually refers to the exterior of the vehicle, to the kind of armor that houses the machine and everything else that makes up the complete vehicle. We will not be mistaken if we call the body a tortoise shell of the vehicle.
And now that we have all learned this, it is time for each piece to look more closely and understand its functions.

Mudguard

As its name suggests, its main function is to protect the rest of the vehicle, but also other vehicles in traffic from water and mud splashes that occur due to the rapid rotation of the wheels. There are front and rear and different types of this part, some are tin and fixed, and some are plastic and can be moved. It is actually like a frame around a tire which reduces the impact of tire rotation on the rest of the vehicle, but also on other road users, and it has been an important part of the car since its appearance.

Fender edges

It is the outer part of each of these parts, either front or rear, which can be made of metal or galvanized, plastic or aluminum, depending on the type of vehicle and the manufacturer.

Engine cover

It is also called the hood, and as its name implies, it is a tin, and more recently some vehicles and a plastic hood that protects the engine. The name of the hood originated in the 20s and XNUMXs because the hoods of the time were really like hoods under which women in hairdressing salons were drying their hair and doing their hair. Older vehicles generally have steel bonnets, while the newer ones are mostly aluminum and even plastics and similar materials. Also, in the past they were most often opened from the windshield outwards, and today they open inwards.

Branik

It is located on the front and rear of the car. It is actually the most protruding part of the vehicle, which is made so that, in the event of a collision with another vehicle or anything while driving, it protects the interior, the most important parts of the car, but also the one with which the vehicle collided. Hence the name - bumper, because it protects the vehicle, but also the passengers in the car and those that the vehicle encounters. In strong collisions, their role is actually minimal, and their most important function is to protect pedestrians in the event of a car hitting them.

 Bumper Bracket

It is also called the cross member and it is the load-bearing part of every bumper on the car. It is mostly made of metal and absorbs most of the impact on itself during any accident.

Connecting sheets

They are the connecting part in the front and rear of the car. In older vehicles, they are mostly metal, while in modern cars they are increasingly plastic.

Maska

It is considered a fashion accessory on the car, although some manufacturers say its role is aesthetic and safety, that is, to protect the bumpers, bonnet and other front body parts. Mask opponents, on the other hand, say they retain moisture, damaging the machine and reducing vehicle aerodynamics. There are several types of car masks, and it is certainly among the more popular sports ones.

Father

The lights or headlights are mounted on the front and rear of the car, and in some cases on the door and on the roof. Headlights are divided into dipped beam and high beam, flashing lights and fog lights. As a rule, the lights (long and short and fog lights) should only be white or yellow and yellowish in color and flashing yellow.

Stop lights

They are mounted on the rear of the car and serve to show other road users that we are stopping the vehicle or reducing speed. According to world traffic conventions, in all countries this light must be red. It is interesting that before the invention of electric stop lights, they were oil-powered on the first cars, while nowadays rare vehicles also have front stop lights that signal to vehicles in the opposite direction to stop or slow down.

Car refrigerator

In order for the engine to work optimally, it needs to have the optimal temperature, and this is made possible by the engine cooler. Namely, as the engine works, the belts and pistons tare and the temperature increases. The radiator always keeps the operating temperature in the engine, and it is around 86 degrees Celsius. The coolant circulates in the engine, and it cools in the honeycomb-shaped cooler. Over time, the radiator can wear out, and the engine coolant leaks or is used up, so it is always necessary to take care of this so that the car does not overheat and so that steam does not start to erupt under the hood.

Glass Lift

There are manual and electric windows. Older types of cars mostly have manual ones while these newer ones have electric ones. Both types are actually a complicated system with several parts that are connected and that must function well in order for everything to work without problems.

Prague

Car sills are the lower part of the body, leaning on the floor and most often affected by the adverse effects of road conditions, especially salt and snow, and are prone to rust. We divide them into external and internal. We often hear about rotten (external) thresholds that need to be replaced. Nowadays, plastic sleepers are increasingly appearing as a good replacement for those metal ones, at least when it comes to rust. There is also an option of gluing plastic sleepers to tin, rusted ones.

Luggage compartment and bonnet shock absorbers

To properly open the tailgate and tailgate, it is necessary to have good dampers on the parts listed. Otherwise, we have problems opening and closing, and for example, we often bang our heads into the under-opened tailgate. This is part of the bodywork that some drivers on old cars replace and some wooden supports, but this is definitely not a good solution.

Mirrors

We mainly divide them into electric and ordinary. Electric ones have a number of functions, so on some cars they fold automatically when the vehicle is turned off and have heated windows during the winter months and the windows are moved and adjusted with buttons.
