The Touran is Volkswagen's first car to be fitted with electro-mechanical steering. It is able to adjust the "weight" of the steering depending on driving speed, and due to otherwise useless energy consumption at idle, it also increases the overall performance of the vehicle.

The second faslifting of the first generation of this monovolumen has been manufactured since 2010. It is based on the Golf VI platform.
