Mercedes luxury models - An overview through history
Stuttgart The first Mercedes S class was put on sale in 1972. Mercedes luxury cars started making much earlier, the oldest precursor of today's S-Class appeared at the beginning of the 20th century.
As the oldest ancestor of today's S-Class model is the Mercedes-Simplex from 1903. During that time, the car had a powerful engine - a four-cylinder engine with a power of 44 KW (60 hp). The car was manufactured by Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG), the predecessor of today's Daimler.
In 1928, the Mercedes-Benz Nurburg (V08), the first production model of the brand with an eight-cylinder engine under the hood, arrived on the market. The 3.67-meter wheelbase had a spacious cabin.
The Mercedes-Benz 770, manufactured between 1930 and 1943, is also known as the Grosser Mercedes. The first model car with an eight-cylinder engine with compressor charge.
Postwar Type 300, internal code W186 (later W189). This model was nicknamed Adenauer by the Federal Republic of Germany Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who owned several copies of this model.
