Type R - time symbol [4. part - Accord]

Imagine a top athlete at a festive dinner. Tie and suit are a must for everyone, and almost to blend in with the environment of obese managers and businessmen, it does not exude power and fitness with every movement. Yes, and that jacket looks a little different from it than the rest, a little tight on the mighty shoulders. There is no elegance to deny it, but as his heart beats and how he feels, they reveal dazzling white sneakers - despite the custom and a valid "dress code" on such occasions.

The Type R edition of the Honda mid-range sedan is nothing but a purebred athlete, just coming off the track, who, for a special occasion, and in 1998, donned a four-door suit and a long trunk lid.

For this occasion, a 2.2-liter H-series engine was selected. Despite the more meaty torque characteristics, thanks to volume, and slightly less dizzying rpm than the more compact "R's," the H22 still "pushed out" to 212hp at 7200 rpm.

H

H

Honda estimated that discs of 300/282 mm in diameter were sufficient to safely stop the body, at 1330 kg, even at a maximum speed of 228 km / h.

To this athlete, the suit was not too different from the rest of the brothers, so the muscles were visible only through discrete lipsticks on the bumpers, and the dominant split exhaust pipes.

Of course, there are "sneakers", white or silver, a five-spoke, double-edged design, size 17, with "soles", and otherwise, "made by Bridgestone", in the Potenza RE040 215/45 variant. Sitting in profiled Recaro tubs, with the option of extending the seat, you will enjoy neither radio nor air conditioning, nor will the passengers behind you lower the window with the push of a button.

H

H

A little cheeky, just like wearing sneakers on a suit, a 460cm sedan will give you a true picture of the surface you are riding on, stiffer springs and shock absorbers, as well as specially made silent blocks. To make the CH1 chord even more neutral in curves, the front and rear transverse stabilizers of increased diameter are taken care of. Although with an acceleration of 7,2 s or better - 6,7 s after a slight redesign in 2001, the Accord is not at all slow, its greatest value is still its overall experience and curve behavior.

Honda Accord Type R

Extremely precise steering, LSD, a powerful twist-resistant chassis, excellent balance and bright red curved eternally hungry eight in the red box, are credited with being considered a "four-door Integra" and earning the epitome of the best Honda ever offered in the European market. However, as difficult as it is to find shoe suits paired with sneakers, so is the demand for a large and spacious car that is so extreme in its performance and not record. The Type R CH1 underperformed in expected sales, despite being a great car with no shortcomings. After 2003, with the arrival of the next generation of the Chord - there was no Type R offering.
The Far East is, again, a story unto itself. From the same test, such as the European Type R, their Euro R was created in parallel.

Basically the same car, with a slightly different body, slightly stiffer suspension and a slightly more powerful 220hp engine.

A real treat, which continued to live in the next generation of chords, from 2003-2008. years. This, the latest edition of the CL7 bodywork, hides a more modern K20 220 hp heart.

The rear axle and wheelbase of 267 cm were taken from the previous model, while the front one underwent slight changes.

H

Basically, it can be said that the CL7 is a refinement of the 1 CH1998 model, which indicates how thoroughly the CH1 is a made car and cannot be easily surpassed by a full 10 years.

In 2012 Honda enters without any Type R model in the catalog. For the first time, after exactly 20 years, there is no champion-white hood, with the powerful silver letter H on a bright red background. Integra no longer exists, the Accord has grown, made it difficult and outgrown playing the Eight on the red playground, the Civic instead of the black and white flag, now being judged by some "environmental judges". Honda still makes high-end cars, continues to develop cutting-edge technology, though now it all goes in the other direction - less consumption, care for the environment, talking about turbines, combinations of electric and gasoline engines…

There is no doubt that there will be more performance models from the Honda Stud, just maybe in the future will wear the Type H badge? H like a hybrid, or just a Honda? Just so they don't forget, H stands for "heritage," too. heritage. In anticipation of new models and some new history, we are left to enjoy the rare, expensive specimens from past glorious years of best vintage - just as it is with wines. Cheers!
