Subaru 2.0D engine

Subaru is a brand that has won its reputation in rally competitions. No wonder buyers first come to terms with sports performance when they see models under the sign Subaru. The Japanese claim it is Subaru The 2.0D engine is also connected to… savings. Are you sure ?
When Subaru introduced the 2008D engine in early 2.0, the automotive world couldn’t stop admiring the art of Japanese engineers - the two-liter engine being the first diesel boxer motor. With four cylinders, four valves per cylinder with variable valve opening time, equipped with Common Rail system and DPF filter additionally assisted and turbocharger with variable geometry. The modern engine has gained great popularity over time and significantly improved the brand's sales. There are two power variants on the market, 147 hp or 150 hp. Different compressions, while the torque in both cases is the same - 350 Nm is achieved at about 2100 rpm. The engine is installed in all Subaru models and can be found behind the mask of the Imprezy, XV, Legacy / Outback and Forester, where, despite the rather moderate power, it works well. Advantages? Similar to other modern diesel engines - low fuel consumption, very high work culture and good dynamics.
In this case, the diesel innovative idyll did not last long - cases of "death" of the engine after less than 150000 km are not uncommon. Changes made to engines since 2010 have slightly improved engine life. The engine usually has problems with the clutch. In fact, this element is not too durable and can fail even after only 30000 kilometers. The manufacturer is constantly making changes to the engine software (new maps) to help save this engine. The floating flywheel also seems weak in terms of endurance. The reason for improper engine operation is often the EGR valve.
In the future, the problems with DPF will gradually increase - it is a new set, which is why many users will decide to download it. While problems with the clutch and floating flywheel can in some cases be attributed to improper use, problems with the crankshaft that occur due to excessive axial displacement of the repair in this case is practically unprofitable. Over time, it may be necessary to clean or replace the injectors.
Despite constant improvements, this engine still belongs to the group of potentially risky. The main problems do not apply to all engines, but there are many suspicious engines. We advise you to approach every encounter with this engine with a reserve, maybe the owner wants to get rid of expensive problems. The recommendation is younger engines produced after 2010 - they are more durable. It is a great pity that a 2.0D engine can be problematic, because in everyday life you cannot have any objections to its behavior and efficiency.
