Winter tips

SMALL WINTER TIPS - Worse weather conditions, rain, snow, ice and fog require special vehicle preparation and driving in winter traffic. Here are some tips on how to prepare your vehicle and how to drive in such conditions:

  • Before starting the engine it is essential to check the condition of the wipers, they may be completely frozen. Wipers must be checked before starting the engine. If so, they should wait for them to return to the starting position, then switch them off, and then start the engine.
  • After starting the engine, it is necessary to leave the engine running while removing snow from all windows. At the same time turn on the heating in the vehicle and the fan in order glass fogged from the inside. It is necessary to remove the snow from the front and rear of the body, because if the snow stays on the vehicle, its edges become less visible, thus reducing the distance between your vehicle and other vehicles.
  • All lights should be checked: front large and medium lights, rear stop lights, fog lights, position lights, direction indicators, reverse lights. Snow or ice deposits should be removed from all lights.
  • If visibility is reduced, it is advisable to switch on the high-light even in the daytime because, although it may not illuminate the road enough, at least your vehicle will be easily visible to other road users.
  • When driving on snow and ice, all maneuvers are performed slowly and carefully (starting, decelerating, braking, turning the vehicle, stopping, etc.) sudden movements are ignored on slippery pavements.
  • If the main pavement on the uphill is very slippery, slow down slowly, then approach the vehicle along the right edge of the pavement (to make contact with a less slippery surface) and slowly add gas.
  • Climbing the slippery slope just behind the other vehicle should be avoided, because if it gets stuck, you will be stuck. Therefore, you should reduce your speed before climbing and maintain a slightly greater distance from the vehicle ahead.
  • If the vehicle starts sliding along the roadway, it is necessary to turn the steering wheel to the same side - e.g. if the back of the vehicle starts to drift e.g. turn the steering wheel to the right! Never brake when sliding or sliding the vehicle!
  • It is necessary to reduce the speed considerably before turning at an intersection. The use of brakes when cornering should be avoided, but slowly lowering the speed, turning and then slowly increasing the speed.
  • If the vehicle is moving at a much slower speed than other vehicles, it is necessary to turn on all four direction indicators to alert other drivers in a timely manner.

Winter driving conditions can be less dangerous if these tips are applied. Driving will be safer and more enjoyable for the driver as well as for other road users.
