Type R - One Time Symbol [NSX-R] - Part 1

Another car story? The reaction of the average girl, the lady, the wife… It may be said, but sometimes things start gently. They start with a lot of warmth, instructive and most invigorating. To the extent that reading the lines below makes you think that you have mistaken the Web site or that the author has completely left the topic, you are mistaken. We just love the TASTE.

Wine ... You know, that noble drink, which is inextricably linked to the existence of a human being. For centuries, it has been present on the tables of the poorest and richest, songs and stories have been sung about it; it is an indispensable part of celebration and sorrow, always. It can be said that it is difficult to imagine the human everyday life without wine. There is a variety of it, from cheap variants that serve "just to drink something", through noble species for festive and special occasions, to fabulously expensive bottles - they are not consumed to their full extent, mostly bought for prestige. Then there are the colors… The myriad shades, from purple to black, from pale yellow to the full glow of old gold. And, just smells and tastes - for everyone. Do you know why there are so many types of wine, and how only some manage to pamper your senses in such a unique way and worship and rank them far higher than others for a reason? No, it's not just a matter of variety. The basic climate is the small secret of the ancient master. Special, premium wine with character requires grapes grown on a special land, at a certain altitude, with an ideal climate and the number of days of the year bathed in the sun. This is something that cannot be copied, even if you manage to "smear" the vine. I love wine. I kind of like less, some more, but I like everyone just as much as saying to me, "just drink it, I'll catch you later!"

I love cars too. To me, cars are, in many respects, like wine: I cannot imagine today's world without them. They come in all forms, with different purposes, functionalities and performance. Everyone is interesting to me, I would love to try and use every opportunity to drive everything I can - gasoline, diesel, any drive wheels, automatic, "manual" ... However, I am particularly attracted to models with good performance, which have a strong character. Models of good, sporty performance were once reserved only for specialized and expensive brands, and in the 80s mass and angry versions of ordinary, affordable models began to be mass-produced. The recipe was similar to most manufacturers - increasing the power by "forcing" to 6000 rpm, putting "two larger engines", larger wheels, red tape and a 16V badge, over half the trunk and / or mask. And so, you had one car wine cellar on the market, but only one "bottle" whose wine offered a special, unique taste. No one else, no matter how hard, could bring such a spectacle to your senses. For that taste, grapes have been grown on racetracks for decades. The squeeze masters baked the craft, surrounded by the scent of laurel wreaths, in pit stops of numerous two- and four-wheeled besties.

This is the story of just that bottle of wine whose taste and aroma could not be reached by others. This is a story of character wines, for which others have no climate, a story of wine whose taste only begins where it ceases and stops. The words this wine utters are "just go, I'll catch you after ... 6000!". This is the story of the culmination of one philosophy, one racing heart, one technology. This is a story about cars Honda Type R!

At a time when all manufacturers were offering adrenaline models, Honda also wanted to offer its customers something even more charismatic than before. Hand to heart, they already offered models in the "ordinary" range that could easily spin at over 7000 rpm and develop specific forces higher than the competition. They felt and knew they could offer even more, even better. They decided to call the racing modifications of the standard models one letter - R ("racing"). The honor of being the first to carry the magic letter R came in 1992 in Honda's NSX-R supercar.

Already the basic NSX, with its appearance in 1990, cast into concern the then models of the prestigious Ferrari and Porsche. Fluid aerodynamic shape, all-aluminum construction, centrally positioned engine, rear-wheel drive and perfect on-the-go balance were a blow that the automotive elite did not expect from one manufacturer of hearty, high-quality, yet smaller and inexpensive, mid-range front-wheel drive. However, Honda did not seem to have had enough performance and a huge number of new coupe orders, two years after the premiere began to "sharpen the spear".

We will start from the heart of the new featherweight - it remains the same as with the standard model! Another proof of the direction of Honda's philosophy - make improvements only in the right places. The engine was of a new construction - a 6L V3.0. Equipped VTEC system valve control with two camshafts in each head, the "strainer" is 280hp at 7300 rpm. For those who matter, the maximum torque was 294Nm at 5400 rpm. Next to VTEC system, it also had VVIS ("Variable Volume Induction System"), which made it possible to change the intake air volume and thereby "smear" high torque through a wider rpm range. Lightweight titanium connecting rods make it easier to achieve high rpm while maintaining the strength of the steel. Despite the factory-set red field on the RPM at 8000 rpm, the engine is able to spin up to 9000 rpm without increasing durability issues.

Instead of the engine, changes were made to the transmission, reducing the total mass of the vehicle. The NSX-R lost a total of 140kg compared to the standard version. In fact, the relief was greater, but some of the mass "came back" because of the added structures for fixing the body. The diet included soundproofing and lightweight carbon fiber seats, among other things.

The suspension is lowered by 20mm and further stiffened by stiffer springs and shock absorbers. On the 16-inch wheels were black special Bridgestone Potenza RE010-R1 in 205/50 front and 225/50 back. In any case, the balance eventually showed 1230 kg instead of the initial 1370 kg, and the final gear ratio in the transmission was shortened from 4,062 to 4,235. The result is a time at 402 m of 13,05 s (NSX 13,7 s) and acceleration of 0-100km / h in 4,8 s (NSX of 5,9 s), with a maximum speed limited to 262 km / h. Special white to this model was the "Championship White" color.

Unfortunately, the NSX-R was never offered in markets outside Japan, and 483 copies of the NA1 series were produced until production was completed in 1995.

Seven years later, Honda is launching with the revamped NSX-R (NA2).

In its thirteenth year of production, the NSX was still intensely resilient to weather and competition (admittedly increasingly difficult), but cosmetic changes and refinements were required to maintain superior results. The new NSX-R has also undergone a number of evolutionary improvements, most notably:

- Aerodynamic carbon hood, which provided additional thrust to the ground;
- Rear diffuser and carbon spoiler, also for additional thrust to the ground;

Honda NSX-R

- Air deflectors, which controlled the flow of air through the interior;
- Increasing engine volume to 3.2L, torque to 304 Nm at 5300 rpm, while power remains 280 hp;

Honda NSX-R

- More precise balancing of pistons and connecting rods, crankshafts and pulleys, more precise clearances in the engine and reduced friction;

Honda NSX-R

- Increased throttle response, with the introduction of the Drive-by-Wire system;
- Thicker stabilizers and stiffer springs and shock absorbers, tighter silent-blocks;
- Larger tires, Bridgestone Potenza RE070 215 / 40R17 and 225 / 40R17;

Honda NSX-R

- Cut brake discs and larger calipers;

Honda NSX-R

With a number of smaller changes, there was a car that accelerates to 100km / h in 4,4s and on the Nurburgring track achieves time just like the more expensive, newer and over 100hp more powerful Ferrari F360 Challange Stradale.
