Ford Ka 2.gen. 2008 - 2016 - Polovnik, experiences, problems

Ford Ka 2 gen. it debuted in 2008, a year after the Fiat 500. Ford Ka 2.gen. is technically identical Fiat 500, they are not only constructed on the same basis, but have the same suspension, steering and braking system, and the engines come from Fiat. Also, many elements of the interior are the same.

The interior of a small Ford Ka 2 gen. , barely 362cm of car can easily accommodate four people. It is surprisingly spacious. If a tall person does not sit behind the wheel, an adult passenger can stand behind him. On the right, even larger passengers have so much legroom that they can move the seat forward, creating space for the adult in the back. The only restriction on seating is the height of the cabin, that is, the amount of headroom, but the kids will easily fit. It is impossible not to mention the 4-star result in Euro NCAP tests. Therefore, Ford KA is a safe car.

210-liter boot - another surprise. Unlike the look, it is large and will accept large purchases. Moreover, there is a spare wheel under the floor, so if someone installs a gas system, the luggage space will not be lost.

Ford Ka 2.gen. - Engine

The offer of model drive units is very modest. Only two engines, a 1,2-liter petrol with 69 hp. This is of course Fiat's design, known for small models, which is not dynamic or particularly economical, but still cheap to operate. The other engine is a Fiat 1.3 diesel designated as the Duratorq (later TDCi), and is actually a MultiJet. Diesel generates a modest 75 hp, but a solid 145 Nm. A 5-speed manual transmission is installed on both engines. Consumption of a gasoline engine while driving in the city is about 7-8 l / 100 km, the average consumption is about 6-7 l / 100 km. With diesel you have to subtract about 1-2 liters from the gasoline results.

Ford Ka 2 - Problems and malfunctions

Electricity can cause problems for Ford Ka, but less than for Fiat. The problems mainly concern electric motors. Problems with both the ignition coil and the engine sensor (shaft position sensor or temperature sensor). It should also be noted that the newer Ford Ka 2.gen. have a start-stop system. The battery is recharged using recovered energy while driving without the load on the engine. There is an AGM battery in these cars (more expensive to buy) and a more powerful starter and alternator. The electrical system is slightly different than the version without a start-stop system. This applies to cars manufactured since November 2010.

When it comes to the engines themselves, the 1,2-liter gasoline only has electrical problems, which I mentioned, though it must be honestly admitted that they are quite small and not common. The engine is suitable for mounting TNG installations.

The Diesel 1.3 MultiJet is structurally the same unit used in other Ford, Fiat or Opel models. Its more serious problem is the EGR system and the drive chain tensioner. Therefore, the engine oil level must be checked regularly because low engine oil level can result in improper tensioning of the tensioner and thus accelerate the chain wear. There is even a case of chain breaking, but before the chain crashes, the chain first makes a lot of noise, so cracking occurs in abandoned cars. You do not have to be afraid of the injection system, the turbocharger, because due to the specificity of the car, the engines run mostly in the city, short distances. Low oil level also affects the lubrication of this element. Fortunately, this diesel engine is not equipped with a floating flywheel, and the clutch is exactly the same as gasoline.
