Causes of warm engine starting problems

The problem with starting a warm engine applies not only to older cars with significant mileage, but also to newer cars with modern construction. What could be the causes of such problems?

The list of potential errors that can cause problems with starting a warm engine is unfortunately long. And delaying their repairs contributes to the accelerated consumption of a number of other components.

Having trouble starting a warm engine? The cause may be a valve failure

One of the most common causes of problems with the "ignition" of a hot unit is its natural wear and lack of necessary adjustments that are made according to the manufacturer's instructions. This is especially true for vehicles with significant mileage. In any internal combustion engine, over time, the components degrade.

Especially in gas or CNG powered cars, the valve seats themselves and the valves wear out faster.

In most cases, the problem is solved by hydraulic regulation of the valve. If that is not the case, every few tens of thousands of kilometers, a mechanic should be told to manually adjust the valves - the lack of such regulation will reveal, among other things, the problem of starting a warm engine. Partially open valves cause a large loss of compression, which leads to significant problems with starting the drive unit, while while driving there is a clear drop in power and increased fuel consumption.

The problem of running a hot diesel engine is often caused by a lack of fuel in the highway, inlet

Many car owners with modern diesel engines struggle with the problem of starting a warm engine.

The cause in this case may be a lack of fuel in the supply, the highway, or more precisely insufficient pressure in the fuel system. Minor leaks in the fuel system of diesel units with direct common-rail injection cause the return of diesel fuel to the fuel tank "after shutting down" the engine. As a result, attempting to restart requires a longer engine start. Only then will the fuel pump create the appropriate pressure in the system.

Diesel fuel in a fully functional engine should remain in the main, under high pressure - only in these conditions are the injectors able to create appropriate ignition conditions in the combustion chambers.

This problem mainly applies to units without an electric fuel pump in the tank (1.6 HDI PSA or 1.6 CRDI groups installed in Hyundai and Kia).

We should look for leaks in the system in the high-pressure pump, or in the wear of the valves that control the operation of common-rail injectors - the latter can be seen by the overflow test.

Diaphragms and rubber gaskets that work in a high-pressure pump under the influence of low-quality diesel fuel are subject to faster degradation. Impurities and high content of undesirable substances contribute to the curing and vulcanization of rubber seals, resulting in loss of strength.

Startup problems can be problems with anaser

The standard cause of the problem when starting the drive is… starter. Remember that this element is also subject to wear and tear - after years it does not generate the required engine speed for a smooth start. Here the defect solves the replacement or overhaul of this subassembly.

You have a problem starting the engine, check the timing gear (toothed belt or chain)

Engine chain

Proper functioning of the engine timing mechanism has a huge impact on smooth starting of the engine. Thanks to this mechanism (realized by means of a belt or chain), the operation of the valve is controlled.

The problem arises especially in modern motors equipped with a chain as a distribution - lower quality of materials used and high load on the drive units results in faster wear of the subassembly. The chain is towed, resulting in a deregulated timing mechanism. Here, the problem will be solved only by replacing the complete divorce chain.

The problem often occurs in the first VAG 1.4 TSI engines, as well as in the 1.6 THP made by engineers from bmw-and PSA groups.

Changing the chain will not be cheap. Advanced gearing mechanisms, tensioner sets and roller skates take a long time to service, and often several elements need to be dismantled to gain access to the timing mechanism.

You want to avoid trouble, remember the manufacturer's recommendations

Regardless of the age and technical sophistication of the car, regular service is of the utmost importance. In accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, operational replacement as well as regulations are the key to safe and efficient use for many years.

Seemingly small problems, they can cause problems described when starting a warm engine. Unfortunately, in the case of modern engines, you have to consider the high cost of replacing or overhauling the components used, especially in the case of common-rail injectors, which cannot be repaired.
