BMW X3 E83 - PETROL MODELS WITH 6 CYLINDERS
PROBLEM - Restless operation and engine shutdown at idle.
CAUSE - Damaged intake manifold.
REPAIR - Replace the intake manifold. Clear the ECM memory error codes.
BMW X3 E83 - DIESEL MODELS WITH CODE N47 / N57
PROBLEM - Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminates, engine is losing power.
CAUSE - Defective exhaust valve return actuator (EGR).
REPAIR - Install the modified EGR valve actuator.
BMW X3 E83 - MODELS WITH CODES N51 / N52 / N52K
PROBLEM - Tapping from the top of the engine after a cold start or frequent short trips.
CAUSE - Air in hydraulic jacks.
REPAIR - Check that the oil level is correct. Start the engine. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Perform the following procedure a maximum of 5 times: increase the engine speed to 2000 - 3000 rpm and hold for 3 minutes; let the engine idle for 15-30 seconds. Check that the engine is pounding. If thumping is still present: increase engine speed to 15 - 2000 rpm for 3000 minutes.
BMW X3 E83 - MODELS WITH ENGINE CODE N52 / N54
PROBLEM - Engine coolant temperature control indicator illuminates.
CAUSE - Engine coolant pump engine failure.
REPAIR - Check the cooling system for leaks. Check the electrical installations of the engine coolant pump engine. Replace the engine coolant pump engine. Clear the error codes.
BMW X3 E83 - MODELS WITH ENGINE CODE N52 / N54
PROBLEM - Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminates. The engine starts hard and runs poorly.
CAUSE - Camshaft phase adjustment mechanism (CMP) valve jammed or blocked.
REPAIR - Install a new camshaft phase adjustment (CMP) valve.
