The 3 Series was, is, and will remain the most important model of the Bmw. It is her bestseller and as such she is entitled in every way. And there is a special concern for each generation. Each is improved from the previous one (except from 2005 to 2012 for some, but this is debatable). The sixth-generation Bmw 3 F30, for its part, brings back the highest-quality finish, while improving some of its predecessor's shortcomings.

The 3 BMW 30 F2011 that debuted in XNUMX evokes a lot of positive emotions. They are bought by people who expect excellent management features but are counting on the increased cost of use.

BMW 3 F30

A common feature of the "three" is the high ergonomics of the cockpit (the center console is again facing the driver). Limited space on the seats, unfortunately, is typical for the Bmw 3 Series. However, there is obviously more space in this generation than in its predecessor.

A lighter, more spacious and much more modern car than the highly regarded, though rather unsuccessful 3 Series (E90). The new "troika" F30 impresses with its appearance, but also technically introduced a great revolution. Primarily in the field of engines that already had to comply with the Euro 6 standard.

Bmw 3 F30 - engines

BMW 3 F30

In the superlatives themselves, you can talk about most versions of the engine, at least if we think about driving abilities, not problems. BMW used gasoline engines with direct injection. This practically undermines the meaning of using LPG, but it turns out that the units are relatively economical.

Model 1.5 certainly does not match the character of the model - it has 3 cylinders (!) And little power. Similarly, the 1.6 petrol drops from 136 horsepower. You won’t have any objections when you opt for the 2.0 engine, and even more so the 3.0. Interestingly, as much as 306 horsepower can meet an average of less than 10 l / 100 km and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5,6 s! Certainly 10 liters will not be enough for a dynamic ride.

You can choose between diesel engines 2.0 R4 and 3.0 R6. Other than the 116-horse version, you can count on a really nice ride. The average fuel consumption is 6 l / 100 km. If too much, we recommend the EfficientDinamics variant (the package is also available in gasoline versions) improved aerodynamics and tires with reduced rolling resistance. The three-liter engines have an almost sporty performance.

It should be noted here that the N47 engine that drives the 325d, although it is four-cylinder, has a twin turbocharger. In addition, problems with the timing chain in N47 engines are only sporadic. Unfortunately, there are still fuel pump failures. The best choice is a six-cylinder 330d diesel with 258 hp. It has one turbocharger and is durable. It is true that you cannot count on extremely low fuel consumption, but the performance gives a lot of pleasure. I have to admit you can say the same for the new gasoline family.

Bmw 3 F30 - problems and malfunctions

This sixth generation 3-Series is not yet perfectly reliable. But it has improved somewhat compared to its predecessor. Concerns about the turbo engine are rarer or even eradicated, as is the case with the steering and intake manifold. But there are still problems with the timing chain. An element that should last as long as a car. Other things should be taken into account.

Bmw 3 Series 2.0 engine (N20) - The lubrication system usually suffers from problems. There are also faulty (throughout the N series) ignition coils and expensive injectors. In engines of this series of types, soot accumulates very quickly on the intake valves.

The 2.0 diesel, installed until 2015, belonged to the N47 series. The most well-known problem with camshaft tensioners and chains is chain pulling and possibly cracking. The chain problem makes noise under the hood. If the chain and tensioners are not changed in a short period of time, this can lead to serious engine failure. Replacement is a problem because the chain is placed on the side of the gearbox, which must be dismantled. There is also a problem with the fuel pump and the floating flywheel, it often does not last even 100.000 km!

For versions with 2.0 N47 diesel engines in combination with manual transmissions, there is an early failure of the flywheel (100.000 km sometimes), and the complete clutch set must be modified to eliminate this failure. The problem is the accentuated noise and jerk of the entire car at idle and acceleration at low revs combined with the metallic impact sound.

For 2.0 N47 diesel engines (316d, 318d, 320d, 325d and 330d), which are installed up to the redesign,

Each of the gasoline engines has not only a twin turbocharger, whose replacement is very expensive, but also a Valvetronic system and direct fuel injection. It carries not only the risk of errors, but also problems with electronics based on many sensors.

The N6 55-cylinder units have failures in the valve control and ignition systems.

Vibration on the steering wheel. There are a few instances of steering wheel vibration when braking and even while driving between 80 km / h and 120 km / h. Tire balancing can solve the problem, and if under the brake, replacing the discs.

For vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, pay attention to the regular servicing of this, a smooth change of speed up and down, otherwise you can expect a high repair price.

For diesel vehicles that run mostly around the city, there are problems with clogging EGR valves and DPF filters. If problems are detected too soon, it is possible to clean the elements, otherwise they can only be changed.

A number of owners report damage to the air conditioner condenser, which is most likely due to exposure to damage caused by stones during driving.

Rapid wear of original brake components.

Relatively frequent noise on door panels and under the instrument panel.

In the initial models, there are problems with the multimedia interface, which is shown as a black screen, the system freezes, the parking assistant fails., Problems are often solved by reprogramming.

GT version problems with rear spoiler control (this solution was first used in Bmew).
