Audi A1 - Engines

No one Audi The A1 had no naturally aspirated engine under the hood. The first on offer is a 1.2 TFSI with 86hp, replaced by a new 1.0 TFSI after restailing. Next up, 1.4 TFSI in different power versions: 122 (after lifting 125) hp, 140 (later 150) hp and 185 hp, replaced in 2014 with 192-horsepower 1.8 TFSI. Audi, modeled on other models, offered users a premium S1 variant that develops 231 or 256 hp (limited A1 quattro series). For more economical use, diesel engines with turbocharged 1.6 TDI (90, 105, 115 hp) and 2.0 TDI are provided. Later, the role of the base diesel took over 1.4 TDI with 90 hp. The drive in the A1 is transmitted via a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed S tronic. It's actually a Volkswagen DSG gearbox, so you have to keep in mind that after traveling 150 miles, typical problems with that type of gearbox start.

Audi A1 - Malfunctions and problems

1.4 TFSI petrol engines have frequent turbine problems. The problem is reflected in the lack of power, increased oil consumption, black smoke on the exhaust gases and noise when accelerating.

There are problems with floating flywheels in diesel vehicles and manual transmissions.

For the EA111 (TSI and TFSI) gasoline engines (1.2 and some examples 1.4), the camshaft is towed and fired, a creaking sound is heard when starting the engine.

In 1.6 TDI diesel engines, injectors do not work. In individual cases, the problem occurs at less than 40.000 km.

On 1.4 TFSI (136 kW) gasoline engines, owners complain of high engine oil consumption, which may be the result of worn or inappropriate piston rings.

Diesel 1.6 TDI engines have common problems with water pump leaks and EGR valve problems. When replacing the water pump, replace the gear belt. And with EGR valves, the problem is usually solved only by replacement.

For vehicles with electro-movable sunroof, electric motor failure may occur. If the engine makes strange noises while moving the sunroof, it is a sign that it will soon fail.

In some cases water occurs in the rear lights (condensation). The problem was solved by replacing the gasket.

With the DQ200 series (S-tronic) dual clutch series, there has been a malfunction in the computer unit and rapid clutch wear, so pay attention to unpleasant vibrations, noise and rough gear changes, which can indicate a problem.
